Rules

US Lacrosse staff members and volunteers play a critical role in developing the rules for all levels of play. The rules are written to ensure fair and safe playing conditions for all participants.

MEN’S RULES
There are two primary rule books for men’s lacrosse – the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). The NFHS rule book includes the US Lacrosse youth rules. Click on the men’s rules link for detailed information.

WOMEN’S RULES
There are two primary rule books for women’s lacrosse – the US Lacrosse and NCAA. The US Lacrosse rule book is used for all levels of play, including youth, except for varsity collegiate play. Click on the women’s rules link for detailed information.

YOUTH RULES
Under the direction of the US Lacrosse Board of Directors, the organization is working on developing age-appropriate, national rules of play for youth boys’ lacrosse and youth girls’ lacrosse. Click here to learn more about this important initiative.
